In the IP 239 (four-ball) test, a ball rotates above three balls with a static load of 40 kg at 40°C. The top ball rotates at 1,475 rpm for 60 minutes. Wear is measured under a microscope and the results are averaged, yielding the mean diameter of the wear track.
